What's not to love about a backyard wedding! It is intimate, personal, and it's home! I get inspired by my brides and this one was no exception. I asked her some questions I knew everyone would ask if they could. Tell me about your altar doors who did them? My mom did all of the decorations. I told her my vision and she absolutely ran with it? The altar doors came from a friend of the family's barn who collects antiques. My mom thought of that! My aunt and uncle had the arch that we decorated. Who catered? The chuck wagon catered the vegetables and my brother and Brandon Young cooked the ribs and chicken. Ms. Betty Creson did the cakes. Tell me about your signs? How did you get them to turn out so perfect? My mom salvaged the signs and my childhood best friend, Katherine Fones, painted them. She is a true artist and I just told her what I wanted and she worked her majic!!! Who was the best man? How did you and Andy meet? Andy's brother Daniel was the best man. Andy and I met at the University of Tennessee where we both went to undergrad. He was recruited by swim coach and came to UT on a swimming scholarship. We were introduced by my roommate and a mutual friend my sophomore year and were friends for about 3 years before we started dating. After we graduated, we went to South Africa together and lived for six months, both working there, and we have we went to his home town of North Shields, England for the last year. He is a swim coach and owns his own gym. Who are the girls in the Pictures? They were friends I met at U.T; Caroline, Jamie, Sara, Emma, and Katelynn. I met most of them through my sorority. They were all high school friends from Maryville,Tn who welcomed me into their friend group. One of them Caroline Smith, who wore the green dress, is the one who introduced me to Andy. We are all very close even now that we've moved away from each other. They are the most genuine ,kind, and beautiful people I have ever known!!
Catherine Sullivan was the most amazing friend throu the whole wedding and planning process and I couldn't have doine it without her! I asked Anna Barnes to be my bridesmaid because she is my sister I never had and my best friend too!
Tell me about the beautiful details we saw.
The Thirlwell banner on the cake table was done by my sister in law, Dewayna Shelton. The invitations were done by a British company, I ordered them while I was over there and brought them back with me. I got my dress at David's bridal and it was the first one I tried on!! The wicker chair that we took pictures with was my great aunt Viola's on my mom's side, and the door beside it was my great grandfather Colyar Barnes's on her side as well. The white frame we used back there came from the same place as the altar doors. Also, the mailbox where we had the card sign was also my great grandfather Colyar's. The beautiful flower girl is Dewayna and Phil's daughter is Avery Mae. Her dress was ordered off of Etsy. The Flower House did the table arrangements and the bouquets/etc. and provided the baby's breath. I just told Ms. Fran my idea of what I wanted and she blew it out of the water? The sunflowers on the altar and at the register table were from a friend of my dad's field and my mom arranged them. Also, the colorful flowers were from my grand dad's garden, Philip Barnes. Also I carried my great grandmother Lela's handkerchief with my bouquet and wore the garter my mom wore in her wedding.
My mom made the old window wreath hanging on the fence and the mason jar fans. She also made the tags for the mason jar glasses and she ordered the lavender online and Anna and I made the cones that went in them. Also the white piece where the favors were was decorated with mine and Andy's parents and grandparents wedding photo...No divorces on either side!!!Oh and my grand dad Philip Barnes made the birdhouse for us as a wedding gift. Also I just wanted to say how much my aunt and uncle, Keith and Lori Barnes, and my cousins Jake and Anna, did to get the house and yard ready for the wedding. There is no way I will ever be able to repay them? They cleaned and planted and watered flowers all summer! Jake and Keith took care of the yard! They installed new ceiling fans on the porch, got new wicker furniture and asked and asked me exactly what I wanted !!! In spite of the city putting in a new sewage line on their road, they made it so beautiful!! I wanted to have it at their house because I just envisioned the setting that Andy and I wanted there, and because I'm so so close with them and their house is like a second home to me, but it was completely beyond my expectations and just so perfect!! Also Kalyn Slating did mine and Anna's hair. the Andy's shoes were borrowed from his brother .
Cathy- I adored those shoes!
Tell me about Andy's friends.
Andy's friends and teammates from the U.T. swim team who were there came in from Ireland and Venezuela where they are from and where they are swimming professionally. They were both in the Olympics in London last year and we went down to see them.
